Deputy Project Leader, Prof. Tetsuya Sakurai, participates in a partnership agreement in the field of AI between the University of Tsukuba and the University of Washington, U.S.
On April 9 local time (April 10, Japan Standard Time), the University of Tsukuba and the University of Washington agreed to a partnership in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), and a signing ceremony was held to mark the occasion of the Japan-U.S. summit meeting between Prime Minister Kishida and President Biden.
The program aims to promote research, human resource development, entrepreneurship, and social implementation in the field of AI, and will be supported by $25 million (approximately 3.75 billion yen) from NVIDIA and Amazon, respectively.
Professor Tetsuya Sakurai, Director of the Center for Artificial Intelligence Science (C-AIR) at the University of Tsukuba and Deputy Project Leader of the Center, who is also in charge of this project, commented, “Through this partnership, we will promote advanced AI research leading to social implementation and the development of world-leading global AI professionals.“
This partnership is expected to accelerate AI research through international collaboration between Japan and the U.S., and create synergy with the Center’s research and development in the area of digital biotechnology, leading to the creation of new innovations.
