The Vice Leader of Research Development task 4 , Professor Satoru Takahashi, received the ‘Compelling Results’ award from the ISS Research Award.

In the summer of 2023, Professor Satoru Takahashi, Vice Leader of Research Development task 4 was awarded the ‘Compelling Results’ prize from the ISS Research Award.

Small animal breeding mission under artificial lunar gravity
Recipient: Satoru Takahashi (University of Tsukuba), MHU Mission Team
Reasons for Award:
By rearing small animals under artificial lunar gravity for a long period of time,
we clarified for the first time in the world that the homeostasis of mouse skeletal muscle,
which is regulated by gravity loading, is qualitatively and quantitatively controlled by different gravity thresholds.

・Furthermore, although a transcription factor directly inducing fast-twitch muscle fibers had not been identified previously,
we have now identified this factor.
